Interesting features to note about this image are: The Rocky mountains stand out nicely in green/orange/red, showing both their height and their high-frequency nature. The front range is clearly delineated as a sharp red-to-green transition running North-South in the Colorado region. Significant portions of the Eastern seaboard are low elevation areas and show up as a light/deep blue. These areas are just above sea level in elevation. As such, while it looks like Florida and the East coast are under water, they are merely shaded a very deep blue because of the color scale. Erosional paths of current rivers are evident, stretching from the North, in Canada, down to the Missisippi delta. The long, nearly flat area encompassing the inland portion of California is a combination of the Sacramento Valley (North) and San Joaquin Valley (South). Negative elevations (land areas that are below sea level) are found in the Salton Sea and Death Valley areas of South and Southeast California. das/dgm 10/18/96
