NGS Discusses Use of CORS Network for Detecting GPS Jamming

From January 12-15, representatives from NGS participated in the National Sensor Strategy Meeting in Dahlgren, Virginia. At the meeting, NGS met with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense to explore how the NGS-managed Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) data may be used for detecting jamming interference to Global Positioning System (GPS) signals in the future. Whether intentional or unintentional, GPS signal jamming is a serious concern to national security, and the usefulness of CORS data may prove to be a significant aid in rapidly detecting interference.
