International Workshop Held on Monitoring North American Geoid Change (NGS)

From October 21-23, the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) hosted the 2009 Workshop on Monitoring North American Geoid Change at NOAA's David Skaggs facility in Boulder, CO. Geodesists, geophysicists, and surveyors from several countries gathered to discuss best methods to monitor long-term change to the geoid, the equipotential surface of Earth's gravity field which best fits global mean sea level. At this workshop, NGS met with its Canadian and Mexican counterpart agencies to begin the planning process necessary to create a North American geoid under the auspices of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG).
