NGS to Host Kinematic GPS Challenge

The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is conducting a 12-year project, called Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D), to re-define the vertical datum of the United States by flying airborne gravity missions over the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. NGS scientists are hosting a "Kinematic GPS Challenge" to seek community input on the best practices for processing this large positioning data volume. For the exercise, research institutions and companies can compute position solutions using actual data from two 2008 GRAV-D flights over coastal Louisiana. The NGS team will compute gravity using the submitted GPS positions to evaluate different processing techniques and will share results with all participants.
