NGS Provides Assistance to Chilean Visiting Scientists

This week the National Geodetic Survey hosted the director of Chile's Military Geographic Institute and Chile's chief geodesist as part of an effort to modernize the South American nation's geodetic infrastructure damaged by an 8.6 magnitude earthquake in 2010. The scientists are looking to recover and modernize the Chilean geodetic infrastructure damaged by the quake. To address this goal and their concerns about natural disasters, the visit specifically focused on Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and Online Positioning User Service (OPUS) applications, modernizing the national reference system, emergency response, and fieldwork procedures related to these specific fields.
