NGS Coordinates with Canada on Cross-border Geodetic Collaborations

On December 7, National Geodetic Survey (NGS) Acting Director, Ronnie Taylor; NOS Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator, Juliana Blackwell; and other NGS representatives met with the Director of the Geodetic Survey Division (GSD), of Natural Resources Canada. Discussions included the status of the Canadian Geodetic Strategic Plan; the strategy of North America with respect to the Global Geodetic Observing System; height modernization; the recent calibration of international absolute gravimeters, led by NGS; and possible future collaborations and agreements between NOAA and GSD. Close collaboration with Canada is necessary, as both Canada and the United States are pursuing similar improvements to their respective national spatial reference systems.
