NGS Scientists Educate Partners in Alaska

National Geodetic Survey (NGS) scientists provided educational presentations on products and services, including Height Modernization, Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D), Vertical Datum Transformation Tool (VDatum), Horizontal Time-Dependent Positioning (HTDP), crustal motion modeling, and Global Positioning System (GPS) surveying at the recent 2011 Alaska Surveying and Mapping Conference in Anchorage. NGS has been engaged with Alaska partners in a variety of surveying and research activities, including hydrographic and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) surveys, the collection of aerogravity data, and geodetic surveys for measuring accurate positions and elevations. Improving an accurate geospatial reference frame in Alaska is extremely challenging because of terrain, weather, and seismic activity. This data will contribute to nautical charts, crustal motion modeling, and monitoring sea level change. For more information, contact Renee Shields.
