NGS Goes Green with More Fuel-efficient Vehicles

NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is adding to its fleet of fuel-efficient vehicles with an additional six new cost-effective SUVs and minivans. Earlier this year, as part of the General Services Administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, NGS replaced 19 fleet vehicles--approximately one-third of those used by its field personnel--with smaller, more cost-effective SUVs and minivans at no charge to NOAA. All 25 new vehicles operate at approximately 53 percent greater fuel efficiency than those they replaced, which translates into an estimated increase from approximately 13.4 miles per gallon (mpg) to 20.5 mpg per vehicle. NOAA's carbon footprint, and its cost to American taxpayers, just got smaller. For more information, contact Dennis Hoar.
