NGS Hosts Height Modernization Program Training for State and University Partners

On August 18, the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) hosted a workshop, primarily for state and university partners of NGS' National Height Modernization Program (Height Mod) on the importance of tying Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data to geodetic control, especially in its applications to floodplain and coastal mapping. Juliana Blackwell, Director of NOAA's National Geodetic Survey, provided opening remarks for both the LiDAR workshop and a partner meeting held on August 19. Since 2001, Height Mod has provided direct grant support to partners in 18 states; additional states are engaged in the program through forums and local projects.
