NOAA Leads Meetings of Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee

On January 11, the Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee, led by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS), updated its parent committee, the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), on its accomplishments, activities, and plans. The FGDC is an interagency committee that promotes the coordinated development, use, sharing, and dissemination of geospatial data on a national basis. NGS Acting Director, Ronnie Taylor, chairs the subcommittee which exercises government-wide leadership in coordinating the planning and execution of geodetic surveys, in developing standards and specifications for these surveys, and in the exchange of geodetic survey data and technical information. The focus of the meeting was on plans for the implementation of new horizontal and vertical datums. Representatives from across the Federal government participated. NOAA also hosted the subcommittee’s semiannual meeting in Silver Spring on January 12. For more information, contact Jeremy McHugh.
