NOAA Gets Positive Recommendation from National Research Council Report

A recently released report from the National Academies of Sciences, National Research Council (NRC) titled Precise Geodetic Infrastructure: National Requirements for a Shared Resource recommends renewed investment in the geodetic infrastructure that NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) provides, including NGS' National Height Modernization Program, the Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D) Project, and the National Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) Network. NRC reports and recommendations often carry considerable weight with Congress, the Office of Management and Budget, and stakeholders. The report states that the nation's existing systems must be maintained and modernized to provide significant economic, national security, and scientific benefits. A four-page summary is available online here. To download a full copy of the report, please click here. For more information, contact Dru Smith.
