Training at San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

NGS provided training to staff at the San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) and local partners to help them establish vertical control (a series of points on which precise heights, or elevations, have been established) at the site. This will make it possible to monitor changes in water levels, wetland elevations, and other vertically sensitive data. Hands-on practice with surveying equipment was provided, as was data-processing experience and an introduction to NOAA's Online Positioning User Service (OPUS) software. Establishing high-accuracy vertical control networks across the NERR System supports a rich diversity of coastal and Great Lakes environments, for more resilient communities and stronger local economies.
