NGS Sees More Than 1 Million Submissions to OPUS

Friday October 16, 2020

In Fiscal Year 2020, users submitted more than one million GPS survey data files to NOAA's Online Positioning User Service (OPUS). This is more than double the normal usage in prior years. OPUS provides free access to high-accuracy National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) coordinates and enables anyone, anywhere to convert their satellite observations into precise latitude, longitude, and height coordinates in both international and national reference frames. Crowdsourced GPS data submitted via OPUS also helps NGS improve the accuracy of the NSRS. Growth in OPUS usage is credited in part to the tool’s use by regional reference networks and the processing of data collected by earlier crowdsourced GPS on Benchmarks campaigns.
