Tutuila, American Samoa, Reverts to the Local Tidal Datum

Friday April 24, 2020

NGS announced that the official civilian vertical datum for Tutuila, American Samoa, will revert to the Local Tidal (LT) datum for surveying and mapping activities. The American Samoa Vertical Datum of 2002 (ASVD 02) was effectively destroyed by earthquakes and will no longer be used. All federally performed or funded surveys will use the LT datum, which is tied to a tide gauge at Pago Pago, American Samoa. Exceptions include specific military-related applications, which use their own datum.
