Presenter: Dru Smith, NSRS Modernization Manager, NGS
Since 2007, NGS has worked toward a modernized NSRS. With such a long timespan, deadlines and priorities naturally shifted, but the ultimate goal remained a completely new NSRS, approved by the Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee (FGCS).
In 2024, NGS announced that it would release all components of the modernized NSRS over 2025-2026, where each component would be evaluated for at least six months, and that once all components were done being evaluated, that an FGCS vote would be called to approve the entire package.
Most recently, NGS has decided to release (for testing and feedback) a few key components, and to seek FGCS approval on them, before the entire modernized NSRS is available. This decision was driven by the need for industry to have "final" components soon, to begin implementing them, in anticipation of the full release of the modernized NSRS in 2026.
This webinar will discuss the key foundational products recently released to our Beta site for testing and feedback, and will look towards the next steps towards a modernized NSRS.
