Handheld positions for bench marks are highly desireable and very much appreciated by the National Geodetic Survey, as are digital photographs of the marks.
Key in the PID and press the TAB key. If the PID exists in the NGS Datasheets (or in the .dat file in offline mode), data will load into the appropriate boxes. Select the Submitting Agency and change the latitude and longitude to the values that you have determined for the mark. If you are using a navigational grade receiver (most Geocachers), select the 'DDMM.mmm' option and enter the latitude and longitude in degrees, minutes, and decimal minutes. If your navigational grade receiver is set to degrees minutes and seconds, select the 'DDMMSS.s' option and key in the position to the nearest 0.1 seconds. If you are using a GIS or Survey grade receiver, select the 'DDMMSS.s' option and key in the position to the nearest 0.01 second.
